Irises is one of many paintings of irises by the Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh. Like many artists of his time Van Gogh was influenced by Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints. The strong outlines, unusual angles, including close-up views, is a typical element of Japanese woodblock prints which helped to inforce the expressive power of the painting.

Saint-Georges majeur au crepuscule (Eng: Dusk in Venice, San Giorgio Maggiore by Twilight or Sunset in Venice) is an Impressionist painting by Claude Monet completed between 1908 and 1912. It forms part of a series of views of the monastery-island of San Giorgio Maggiore begun in 1908 during his only visit to Venice. Monet felt Venice was a city “too beautiful to be painted”, which may be why he returned with many paintings unfinished to Giverny, his home in France. However, he had already abandoned his earlier practice of painting from life, in front of the subject; instead he worked on the Venetian scenes at home.

Claude Monet, the founder of Impressionism, was one of the most influential landscape painters in the history of art. In 1874, the year of the first Impressionist exhibition, Claude Monet painted the Argenteuil Bridge seven times. The painting depicts a view of the Seine and the pleasure boats that drew tourists to Argenteuil.
