Alphonse Mucha Daydream Reverie Art Nouveau
Alfons Mucha, often known in English and French as Alphonse Mucha, was a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist, known best for his distinct style. He produced many paintings, illustrations, advertisements, postcards, and designs. Daydream features a beautiful dreamy-eyed woman holding a book. The background is decorated with pink flowers, their stems form an elaborate lace-like pattern. Like Zodiac, this 1897 lithograph was originally designed to serve as a calendar. Its immediate popularity led to its publication by the magazine La Plume as a panel with the title Daydream. Mucha’s work has continued to experience periodic revivals of interest for illustrators and artists. Interest in Mucha’s distinctive style experienced a strong revival during the 1960s (with a general interest in Art Nouveau) and is particularly evident in the colorful psychedelic poster art.
